How Do You Fancy a Hotel Owner Like Basil Fawlty

I was thinking back to the good old days with a great friend of mine the other day. We got talking about some of the brilliant old comedy shows that we used to watch back in the 1970’s

She was saying that one of her all time favourites used to be Fawlty Towers, in which John Cleese played the main character.

I couldn’t disagree with her as this show was British comedy at its very best and certainly caused a huge deal of laughter, something that sadly doesn’t seem to happen so much nowadays.

We got onto the subject of who starred in the show and actually had a bit of a row about John Cleese and his real life wife. My friend was absolutely convinced that John Cleese had been married to Prunella Scales, who played his other half in the show, but I knew he was actually married to Connie Booth who played the character of Polly.

It’s strange that such a silly conversation can get so out of hand, but you know what it’s like when 2 women think they are right, nobody likes to back down and admit that they are wrong.

In the end we made the joint decision that the only way to find out which one of was right was to carry out a search in Google. Naturally it was me who was correct, which didn’t go down very well with my mate.

She said that perhaps I should think about booking a self catering Torquay holiday. I said that I would rather visit some of the hotels in Devon in the hope that one of them might actually have a real life Hotel owner like Basil Fawlty.

If you would like to holiday in Torquay I think you will find plenty of great activities you could give a try. One of my friends who organises bowling holidays for her Club was pretty impressed with Torquay during a recent visit. She thought that Torquay was so great that she has already booked up for a couple of bowling tournaments for next year.

I bet she is secretly hoping to have a hotel owner like Basil Fawlty, at least she would be assured there was never going to be a dull moment!!
